Novena to Our Lady of Sorrows
Nine days with the mother of Jesus, written for grief — your own, or someone's you are carrying. Seven days on her sorrows in order, then two on what was done with them.
She comes as a mother. She will sit with you, take the small things out of your hands, and still be there when everyone else has gone back to work. The nine days walk through her own losses, in order — which is how she knows the way, and why there is nothing here you need to explain to her.
What it's for
Grief, dying and the dead. A death, a diagnosis, a child you have lost track of, or the ordinary days after a funeral when everyone else has gone back to work.
Structure
Nine consecutive days, about eight minutes each. Days one to seven are the seven sorrows in order; day eight is behold thy mother; day nine is being taken care of. Each day: a reading where there is one, a reflection, a petition, the fixed prayer, an Our Father, a Hail Mary, a Glory Be, and silence for your intention.
When it's prayed
Feast 15 September; begin on the 6th to finish on it. Otherwise prayed whenever it is needed.
The text used here

Two of the seven sorrows are not scenes in the Gospels — the meeting on the road and the receiving of the body — and those days say so rather than implying a chapter and verse.
