Two voices

For two thousand years, two things have been going on at once.

Heaven has been speaking. Forty-six times in this record, someone reported that Christ, or his mother, or an angel appeared and said something. Mostly it was the same few things. Pray. Turn back. Build something here. And she names her Son.

And we have been speaking back. Forty-six prayers on this site have been said long enough to be kept: the Psalms from before Christ, the Our Father from his own mouth, the Hail Mary assembled over fifteen centuries, the Memorare, the prayer for three in the morning. Mostly they say the same few things too. Have mercy. Stay with me. Pray for us. Make it stop.

Put the two side by side, by century, and you are looking at one conversation. Neither side is graded here. What was said, when, what was going on at the time, and where to read it in full. The rest is yours to weigh.
